June 6th-11th 2011: The 2011 Loop!

The 2011 Loop! My buddy Tim and I made a very nice loop trip through Colorado. Tim did all the planning so all I had to do was take pictures and do a little driving. A big thanks to Tim!  We left Erie, CO and headed south to our first stop, Great Sand Dunes National Park. The tallest dunes in North America. From there it was north to Aspen via Buena Vista and Independence Pass to shoot Maroon Bells and Capitol Peak. Next we headed to Mount Evans for some more scenery shots and of course who can resist a few shots of the wild Mountain Goats. We still had some trip time left so we headed to Rocky Mountain National Park to finish off a great photo trip. The highlight of the trip for me, was standing on the summit of Mount Evans at sunset. At 14,265 feet Mount Evans can be seen from over 100 miles away to the east. Tim and I were the only ones left on the mountain and the weather was absolutely surreal. Clouds were literally swirling about us as the sun was setting and the feeling was something I can't begin to explain. Spiritually intense. As I stood on the summit numb from the view Tim took this outstanding photo of me. You can click the thumbnail for a large size version. As always, you can find a select few of my photos from our trip in the galleries. Once again, I thank you for stopping by and for your continued interest and support of my photographic endeavors.

October 13th 2010: Another Day in Paradise!

Another Day in Paradise!Today was another wonderful day trip through Rocky Mountain National Park here in Colorado. This time I was accompanied by my good buddy and fellow photographer Tim Shank. We made our way slowly through the park on the lookout for photo opportunities. A few portions of the park had already been closed for the Winter but it's a very large park. Generally fall colors peak the last week of September but this year they were a bit late.  We were able to photograph beautiful stands of aspen in full color. Small herds of elk could be seen in the low meadows of the park. The larger males had gathered their harems of females and were resting or grazing in the grasses. I have added another category in my gallery called Fall Colors. A few of the pictures taken this day can be found in the Wildlife and new Fall Colors category. As always, I thank you for your support and for stopping by today.

March 24, 2010: A Late Winter Storm

A Late Winter StormYesterday on March 23rd we were treated to a late winter storm. Here, along the Front Range in Colorado, we received about a foot of snow during the one day storm. The temps were high for a snow storm, around 35 degrees, which makes for some very wet and sticky snow. It sticks to everything! The day after the storm was a beautiful blue spring day. A perfect day for capturing Christmas Card like photos. The combination of the deep blue skies and the snow covered trees makes for some great "Winter" pictures. I realized I needed a new category in my web gallery for just such pictures so you'll now find a "Winter" category. A select few of the pictures taken today can be found in the new winter category. As always, I thank you for your support and for stopping by today.

January 2, 2010: A Snowy Winter Day in RMNP

A Snowy Winter Day in RMNPAfter the hustle & bustle of the '09 holidays I was chomping at the bit for a winter ride through Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Today I was able to make a full day of it. It was cold and it snowed steadily most of the day. Being rather dark out, conditions were not conducive to photography, especially landscapes, so I made the most of it by searching out the local wildlife. I have to say that driving slowly through the park while it is snowing was a wonderfully calming, near spiritual experience. Photography, being all about "The Light" is near impossible under these conditions. Focusing on the local inhabitants was my best bet to take home a few "keeper" photographs. Fortune was with me as I came across one small herd of Bighorn Sheep and a few small herds of Elk foraging for winter food. You can find a few of my photos from that day in my galleries under the Wildlife category. As always, thank you for stopping by today and for your continued interest and support of my endeavors.

September 5, 2009: Mount Evans Summit!

Mount Evans Summit! My latest photo excursion was to the summit of Mount Evans, Colorado. The road to the top of Mount Evans is the highest paved road in North America and a wonderful adventure in itself. The small parking area at the top is at 14,130 foot elevation. A short hike from there will take you to the actual summit at 14,265 feet.  Once you near the parking area there is an abundance of wildlife that is hard to imagine. Small herds of Bighorn Sheep and beautiful white Mountain Goats meander about the area and with all the switchbacks in the road you're pretty much guaranteed to cross paths. You can find several of my photos from that day in my galleries, mostly in the Wildlife category.  As always, thank you all for your continued interest and support of my artistic endeavors.

August 14-16 2009: Landscape Photography Workshop

Landscape Photography WorkshopI recently completed a 3-day workshop in Rocky Mountain National Park with renowned Colorado landscape photographer Glenn Randall. This workshop like many others is offered through the Rocky Mountain Nature Association www.rmna.org. The workshop was an incredible value and besides the knowledge gained I also brought home some great "Keeper" photos. Glenn is a wonderfully talented photographer, writer and instructor. To find out more about Glenn and his workshops you can visit his web site here: glennrandall.com. As always, a select few of my images taken that weekend can be found here in my galleries.

June 18, 2009: A Trip Through the Park

A Trip Through the ParkRocky Mountain National Park that is.  One of my favorite places on earth. Saturday, June 6th 2009 was an incredibly clear and beautiful spring day. I arrived at the park early, in time for sunrise and captured many images. In fact by around 2:00 in the afternoon my camera informed me that my "CF Card is Full"! What? It was the first time I've ever filled a 16 GB memory card in the course of one day. A select few of the images taken that day can be found here in my galleries.
